This Tiny $30K Muji House is a Minimalist’s Dream
Minimalism, simplicity, downsizing, streamlining… all these stripped back, bare-bone concepts have us gripped. The ever-popular tiny house movement is proof of the fact that in a world of “more” and “now” and “busy”, there are more than a few of us who are enticed by the idea of a sleek, simple home, in which surfaces are smooth and clutter-free and our space is as sparse as our diaries.
Naturally, then, the announcement from Japanese design store du jour Muji releasing a pre-fab home was met with more than a little excitement.
Why I love living in a granny flat
For me, renting a granny flat from my super cool (assuming they’re reading this) family members in the house adjacent means I benefit from the good parts of living with other people. I get to eat dinner with them (and not cook), and watch ‘quality’ shows with them at night. Sometimes, they even pick me up from the bus stop when it’s raining. It is also brilliant because we don’t have to have social interactions before midday – my peak time for brooding, caused by my hatred of mornings.
It’s also mostly like living by myself. I can stay up as late as I want because no one tells me not to watch Netflix.
Shacky Tiny House startup supports Australian farmers
The concept of Shacky is to position tiny houses on rural properties, allowing farmers to generate income from renters who lease the space as holiday accommodation.“If a farmer would be able to rent out tiny houses on their farm, this would generate much needed alternative income [while] guests experience the tranquillity of a tiny house on a beautiful Australian farm,” Pennartz says.Shacky allows Australians to “test drive” a tiny house before potentiallycommitting to this lifestyle full-time.What’s this item about? The Modular Movement
New materials and technology have taken modular housing light years away from the transportable homes of the 1970s, offering a sophisticated product with drastically reduced build times.
There is no doubt the biggest benefit of this style of construction is the time saving but it also offers cost efficiencies, safer workplaces with controlled manufacturing at dedicated facilities and reduced environmental impacts.
